About Me: Where I'm From, What I Do, and What I Like!

June 7, 2025

Hello there, and welcome to my corner of the internet. I thought it'd be nice to share a little bit about the person behind the code.

From the Prairies to the Rockies

My story starts in the prairies of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I was born as an only child to two Filipino parents.

While I have fond memories of my time there, my journey into the world of technology truly began when my family moved to Calgary in 2006. The city's energy and opportunities were a perfect backdrop for a budding interest in all things tech.

This path led me straight to the University of Calgary, where I pursued and successfully earned a degree in Computer Science. It was there that theory turned into practice, and my passion for building software solidified.

The Professional Journey

My career in tech kicked off with an internship at a seismic interpretation software company. It was a fascinating introduction to the professional world, where I got my first taste of solving complex, domain-specific problems with code.

From there, I moved to a role in the fleet management space, diving into the logistics of cloud-based software, working with legacy systems, and building new ones. Each role was a stepping stone, providing unique challenges and invaluable lessons.

Eventually, I found my current home at Benevity, a Calgary-based company dedicated to powering corporate purpose. We build platforms for charitable donation-management, volunteering, and grant-management for the world’s most iconic brands. It’s incredibly rewarding to work in the "tech-for-good" space, knowing that the software I help build makes a tangible, positive impact in the world.

Hobbies and Interests

I'm an avid gamer, always up for diving into the rich narratives and complex mechanics of a new RPG. I also really enjoyed playing MMOs, but I've been playing less and less as I've gotten older due to time constraints.

I'm also a big fan of anime and Japanese culture. I did an exchange program in Japan in 2014, and have visited the country several times since then.

I also enjoy a good movie night!

And, of course, the learning never stops. I spend a lot of my free time exploring new technologies, tinkering with side projects (like this website!), and keeping up with the ever-evolving landscape of software development.

Life at Home

On a more personal note, I share my life in Calgary with my wonderful fiancée.

Our home is made all the more lively by our two beloved pets:

  • Sylvie, our extremely cute and shy Russian Blue cat.
  • Ammy, our endlessly energetic and lovable Husky-Labrador mix

Thanks for stopping by to learn a bit about me. Feel free to browse my projects or check out the rest of the site!
